About
Scottish artist, Beverley Waller paints big, bright and bold canvases using strong colour with iridescent layers and rich textures. Sunshine, sparkle and shimmer, golden sands, blue seas, lapping waves, leafy glades and mountains disappearing into layers of mist.
The glistening colour and tactile surfaces of her imagery echo the changing moods of sea, land, river, mountain and sky . Her native Highlands and Islands of Scotland provide particular inspiration coupled to a joyous exploration of colour and surface in the studio. The creative process: ‘thinking with paint’ - a conversation between inspiration, memory, and her chosen materials.
From the earliest age Beverley could be found clutching a crayon or covered in paint but it was on looking through a book of the work of JMW Turner in her local library, aged twelve, that she resolved to become an artist.
Living near Peterhead, one of Scotland’s major fishing ports, growing up with the North Sea as a neighbour, she connected with Turner’s vibrant abstracted seascapes which encapsulated the passion and beauty of the North Sea. It was this glimpse of the possibilities of expression within paint that fired her determination to go to art school. In 2014 and 2015 she was delighted to exhibit at Turner’s House in Twickenham after spending time in the house painting and drawing prior to its renovations into a museum.
She studied Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art and Belfast Art College.
She has exhibited in solo and group shows across the United Kingdom with her work held in private collections in Europe, the USA and Australia.
Beverley shows regularly at art fairs including the Edinburgh Art Fair. In addition to exhibiting in private galleries she is a member of The Fountain Gallery, Hampton Court where she has an annual two week solo exhibition.
